Dwight Freeney again

Yeah we’ve talked enough about the Indianapolis Colts defensive end, but I guess it will never be enough for his fans, who is eager to know whether they are to see their beloved player in his Colts jersey on the field of the Sun Life Stadium in Miami during Sunday’s Super Bowl game against the New Orleans Saints.

I guess they will see. Just guess. Neither the player himself now the team sounds worried about Freeney’s availability for the game. Perhaps they are having some Plan B, but only the complete team that won the AFC champion by beating the New York Jets 30-17 could be called a perfect team to face the Saints on Sunday. Let alone all the information from the team that shows Freeney is in good recovery.

Freeney is to test his sore right ankle for the first time during Friday’s practice after getting enough treatment. Every time talking about the recovery, he always said “it’s better now” or “it is gradually improving.”

It’s no question Freeney will play. He was made to be questionable simply to confuse us, or confuse their opponent.

Colts DE Freeney missed practice along with CB Powers

As we had expected, the ankle injury did not allow the Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney to practice while the team had their first practice in South Florida. Among the 19 players the Colts listed on the injury report, Freeney and injured cornerback Jerraud Powers were the only two who sat out Wednesday’s practice.

Freeney, the All-Pro defensive end, has a torn ligament in his right ankle and is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints. And Powers had a left foot injury. While Freeney was not seen on the field, Powers was on the sideline in his No. 25 Colts jersey watching four-time league MVP Peyton Manning complete all nine passes and throw for a touchdown against the scout team’s nickel defense.

“We’ve played 22 games this year,” Coach Jim Caldwell said. “I want them to be nice and hungry come Sunday. If they need pads this time of year …”

Being asked whether Freeney and Powers are to play this Sunday, Caldwell said he was unsure. He did not expect Freeney to play the game but remained optimistic about Powers’ playing status.

Colts have plan of playing Super Bowl without DE Freeney

As many fans are still wondering whether the Indianapolis Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney will put on his Colts jersey to play this Sunday’s Super Bowl game against the New Orleans Saints, the Colts have already been preparing for a playoff without Freeney.

According to Colts Coach Jim Caldwell, the Colts remain hopeful that the All-Pro defensive end will be fine enough to play the game in time, but they are already working on a rotation in case Freeney cannot play. After all the sprained right ankle has kept him out of practice for most of last week and it is really questionable for him to recover fully from the injury by game time. Even if he is able to play, there are still concerns about how effective he could be.

They remain hopeful because Freeney has history of healing fast- he returned seven days after hurting his quadriceps in late September, and the Colts really need his incredible speed, remarkable spin moves and leverage to attack opponents.

Six injured Colts starters missed practice

The Indianapolis Colts practiced Wednesday without six starters, who were nursing different injuries. Pro Bowl defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis were among the six injured starters, remaining uncertain for this Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Freeney is having abdomen problem and Mathis injured quad, but both played last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The practice report has more significance this week because Coach Jim Caldwell said he will decide who to play based, in large part, on who is healthy.

Other starters who sat out were: receiver Pierre Garcon with hand injury, left tackle Charlie Johnson with foot injury, cornerback Jerraud Powers with injured hamstring and linebacker Clint Session with knee injury. And the most important guy wearing No. 18 Colts jersey was listed again with an injury to his backside but anyway took full part in the practice.

Passing stars of Week 14

Again, the No.9 black New Orleans Saints jersey is a hot pursue online now as Drew Brees continued with his perfect performance, throwing 296 yards and three touchdowns, he helped the New Orleans Saints win their 13th straight win and remain one of the only two unbeaten teams.

The Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub had 365 yards passing and two touchdowns to lead his team to a 34-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks, proving he was the right choice on the team’s starting quarterback.

Peyton Manning did not give a perfect performance this week, but his team still remains unbeaten by beating the Denver Broncos 28-16. Again the quarterback had another milestone in his NFL career, passing Warren Moon for fourth on the NFL’s yards passing list with 49,513 passing yards.

NFL announced fined players

This week the players who received fines from the NFL include the Arizona Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle, tackle Levi Brown, the Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jacob Lacey, the Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams, Cleveland Browns linebacker Kaluka Maiava, New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw and safety Michael Johnson.

Cardinals Rolle was fined $7,500 for hitting tight end Kevin Boss of the Giants in last Sunday’s win, and Brown was fined $5,000 for a chop block, the same as the Panthers Williams, who did the chop block in last Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills while picking up a blitz.

Colts Lacey received a fine of $10,000 because he went to the ground to celebrate after a touchdown in a win over St. Louis Rams and the league considered that was unsportsmanlike conduct.

Browns rookie Maiava, Giants Bradshaw and Johnson each was fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness. Maiava hit Packers receiver Greg Jennings in the game, Bradshaw struke DT in Cardinals jersey named Darnell Dockett in the face mask last Sunday, and Johnson hit Kurt Warner in the head in the same game.

Colts Kicker Vinatieri to be out for 4-8 weeks with knee problem

After having an MRI on right knee last week, the Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri found that he needed to have a surgery to remove a piece of loose cartilage, and after the surgery, he may need four to eight weeks to rehabilitate.

The surgery was operated on Tuesday. And one day later, the Colts signed veteran kicker Matt Stover to replace the league’s best clutch kicker. Since he already had a surgery on his right hip and right knee this summer and managed to make a short field goal in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s 31-9 win over the Tennessee Titans, it was surprising to know that the kicker underwent another surgery and would be not seen in his Colts jersey for so long. Hopefully he will be back before the season ends.

And it is just reasonable for a team to find a replacement when they lose a starter. What was surprising was that, the team released starting defensive tackle Ed Johnson to clear a roster spot for signing Stover. Johnson was released by the Colts last season after being arrested on a drug possession charge. He re-signed with the Colts in May when the team tried to beef up its undersized defensive line and managed to win his starting job. However, his unsatisfying performance on and off the field caused him to be released by the same team for the second time in the past 13 months.

Baskett will be replacement to injured Colts WR Gonzalez

The Indianapolis Colts had to choose former Eagles WR Hank Baskett to replace their starting wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez, who sprained ligaments in his right knee and would have to be out for up to two months.

The third-year receiver Gonzalez was injured during the 14-12 victory over Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Coach Jim Caldwell said that he would be out longer than the Colts first feared, so they had to find a proper replacement and their choice is Baskett.

"Since Anthony's going to be out a while, hopefully we can catch him up as soon as possible," QB Peyton Manning said about Baskett. "It's a lot of offense to learn in a couple of days, but he's a veteran, so he could help us."

Baskett is 6-4, 220 pounds and is bigger than any other Indy receiver. His joining will give the Colts some intriguing possibilities. His records with the Eagles were 72 career receptions for 1,052 yards and six TDs.

Three Colts might be unable to take part in Saturday scrimmage

Donald Brown, the Indianapolis Colts first-round draft pick, did not participate in the practice Friday afternoon. According to coach Jim Caldwell, the reason was that the running back was in need of rest because of sore muscles.

However, Brown was not the only player who had health problem. Running back Mike Hart rolled his right ankle early in the afternoon session, so he did not finish the practice. Caldwell told reporters that the team had not been sure about details of the injury. As for another player, backup quarterback Jim Sorgi, who hurt his right hamstring on a handoff, Caldwell said it may be caused by cramps.

It was really urgent for the Colts to find solution of injured players before the intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday.

Three-time MVP Peyton Manning was on Colts’ first training camp practice

As the Colts began their first training camp practice on Monday, they have three-time MVP Peyton Manning and No. 1 draft pick Donald Brown on field. Both were wearing red practice nfl jerseys.

The practice was held on the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology field, where Manning had been for the first time since August 2007. Last season he had an injury on knee and unwent a surgery, thus missed all of the training camps.

As for Brown, he was the Colts’ No. 1 draft pick and it was also the first day he was playing on the practice field after agreeing to a contract with the Colts for unsigned players are not permitted to practice.

To new coach Jim Caldwell's gladness, everyone reported to camp on time without any distraction.
